Dear Howley Families,
Goodness me that was a ‘blink and you’ve missed half term’, but it has also been action packed!
Alongside our everyday learning and fun, we have celebrated VE Day and Reception had a great time on their very first school trip. Our Year six children have been particularly busy with SATs and a residential - I must say they have been an absolute credit to their families, our school and indeed themselves, showing great courage and determination in facing such a range of challenges from remaining calm and focused throughout their tests, to staying away from home. They have been nothing short of the fantastic young people we know them to be.
Statutory testing will continue after half term with the Year one phonics check and the Year four multiplication check. We know all our children will do their very best and whilst they will achieve scores for these assessments, they only measure one tiny aspect of who they are - every one of our children will always be so much more than a score.
Our final half term of the year will be longer than this one, but no less busy! We will be reflecting on the progress our children have made this year, which will be shared with yourselves through our end of year reports. Alongside this, we will be making plans and preparing our children for the move into their new classes, or in Year 6’s case, new schools.
Thank you to everyone in our school community for all your hard work and continued support. I hope you all have a lovely half term break. See you all on the 2nd June.
Best wishes,
Miss Lewis
Parking
Once again, I need your help with the crucial matter of parking around school. In the last two weeks alone, I have received reports of parents not only blocking the drives of our neighbours, which has stopped them from leaving the house, but also then speaking disrespectfully to our local community when they have been asked not to do it again. I have also witnessed someone parking on the zig zags on Frankly Avenue. I know that the vast majority of our families are courteous and respectful and always park considerately and for this I am grateful. Unfortunately, there are a very small minority, who are setting a poor example to our children and putting lives at risk with their dangerous parking. I have requested police presence at drop off and pick up times and would urge anyone who witnesses poor or dangerous parking to send the details to this link:

Aspirations Careers Fair
Dear Parents / Carers,
As part of our partnership with the Halesowen Town Learning Community (HTLC), we are working hard to raise pupils’ aspirations for jobs and careers in the future. To support this, an aspirations careers event for Year 5 pupils from across the township has been organised on 26th June at the Cornbow Centre, Halesowen. This will be second time that it has taken place after a very successful event last year.
We are appealing to parents, carers and any family members from each school, who would be willing to talk to a group of pupils in school about their job. We would like to encourage volunteers from a range of different careers, as all careers have an important part to play in our society. If you are willing to give some of your time to attend this event in Halesowen, even if you are only able to volunteer for a morning or an afternoon to talk to pupils, please email info@howley.dudley.sch.uk by Friday 6th June, with the details below and we will pass these on to the organisation team.
Kindest regards
Miss Lewis and the HTLC

To help us ensure children’s safety, please check that any toys you donate bear the appropriate safety marks, e.g. the Lion Mark, CE mark or British Standards Kitemark.
