New Intake Reception 2022
Dear Prospective New Families,
We very much appreciate you considering Howley as the school for your little ones.
We understand that choosing a school for your children can often be a difficult decision. Like each child, every school is unique with its own values, ethos and atmosphere. We hope this information gives you some insight to our vibrant and happy school. Once you have had a look through, please don’t hesitate to contact us to arrange a visit or a call for further information, we look forward to hearing from you.
A little bit about us…
Our school was built in 1957 and originally opened as a middle school. Since then, it has continually grown and is a now a thriving two form entry primary school with 420 children and an experienced, dedicated staff team. We have 14 classes with 30 children in each. Our classrooms are bright and modern, providing our children and the adults they work alongside with a comfortable area in which they can learn and play together. We also have a school bungalow, a large hall and kitchen, an outdoor area for our reception children, a dedicated computing room, a music room and a specially designed children’s cookery area.
Our school grounds are incredibly extensive and include our school pond outside our main entrance, two tarmacked playground areas, one for lower school and one for upper school, two playing fields, an allotment area and two well established forest school areas.
We strongly believe that each child is a unique individual and that everyone has an area of strength in which they can excel. We strive to help our children to achieve their very best both academically and personally. Every member of our community is valued, treated with respect and feels a sense of belonging to our school family.
Our school aims reflect our commitment to developing our children academically and as young people.
‘Achieve, Believe, Care’
We work in partnership with our children and their families to fulfil our core purpose-ensuring that our children have the wisdom and courage to make positive choices now and in their futures.
We work together to:
- broaden our children’s minds and increase their aspirations enabling every child to achieve their full potential
- raise our children’s self-belief and confidence through celebrating effort, hard work, progress and successes
- support every child to show care for themselves, others and the world around them
We achieve this by:
- creating a family atmosphere where all members of our school community feel cared for
- offering an ambitious, progressive curriculum which challenges children to build on their existing knowledge and skills
- delivering consistently high-quality teaching and learning
- providing a safe, supportive, inclusive and stimulating environment of which we can all be proud
- nurturing a culture of respect and appreciation
There is no real substitute for visiting schools, feeling and hearing the ‘buzz’ and seeing the happy, hard-working children and staff team. Under normal circumstances our children and staff like nothing more than showing our prospective families around Howley. We are all very proud of our school! However, in these current circumstances we have reviewed and adapted our usual open morning arrangements in order to keep our school community as safe as possible. With this is mind, we are offering our prospective families the opportunity to visit us and have a tour around our school. This will take place outside wherever possible and be socially distanced with only small groups attending each session. You will be shown around by a member of our senior leadership team who will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. You will also have the opportunity to take a look in some of our classrooms, including our Reception unit. You will find the dates below, please contact our school office to book a tour slot.
I know many of you will have been researching a variety of schools, reading up on them and talking to others who have children who attend. We have added a virtual tour of the school below, where you can have a look at the facilities we have to offer. You can also read what our year 6 children want you to know about their school.
We are very much looking forward to meeting you.
